Step 1: How to Measure for Hanfu
Three measurements. Two minutes. Perfect fit.
Bust
Measure around the fullest part of your chest. Keep the tape parallel to the floor. Do not pull tight — keep it snug but comfortable. Wear your usual bra.
Waist
Measure around the narrowest part of your natural waist — usually about 1 inch above your belly button. Keep the tape parallel to the floor. Breathe normally.
Hips
Measure around the fullest part of your hips and seat — usually about 7–9 inches below your natural waist. Keep the tape parallel to the floor.
Pro tip: If you are between two sizes, always size up for Hanfu. The adjustable sash on Ruqun styles can be tied tighter to compensate, but a too-small Hanfu cannot be adjusted larger. When in doubt: size up.
